On October 26, 2026, Sacramento celebrated the opening of a new signalized crossing at the intersection of Jackrabbit Trail and Arena Boulevard, which offers a formal crossing for pedestrians and cyclists using the eight-mile trail in North Natomas. The event featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Vice Mayor Karina Talamantes, Councilmember Lisa Kaplan, and project partners, followed by a community bike ride coordinated by North Natomas Jibe.
Jackrabbit Trail provides a vital connection between neighborhoods and the American River Parkway, thus promoting outdoor activities. Vice Mayor Talamantes expressed gratitude for the collaboration among North Natomas Jibe and city staff. Councilmember Kaplan emphasized that this investment is crucial for ensuring safety for families and commuters. Previously, trail users crossed Arena Boulevard informally, but the new project formalizes this crossing while allowing maintenance access to the canal.
