Sacramento Police Department to host prescription drug take-back event Oct. 24

The Sacramento Police Department is collaborating with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day scheduled for Saturday, October 24. This initiative provides a free and accessible option for locals to dispose of their unused or expired medications safely.

The event is set to occur from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sacramento Police Department headquarters located at 5770 Freeport Blvd. Participants can anonymously drop off medications without any questions asked. Sacramento Police Sgt. Justin Boyd emphasizes the importance of this event, stating, “Unused prescription medications can pose a risk when they’re left in homes where they may be accidentally taken or misused.” This national effort not only aims to curb prescription drug misuse but also to ensure that medications do not contaminate the environment or water supply.
