SACRAMENTO, Calif. — In a recent development, Sacramento police apprehended two individuals in connection with the theft of a historic horse statue that was reported stolen last month. The life-sized bronze statue portrayed Ben Ali, a racehorse that holds significant historical importance for Sacramento, having been trained at Rancho Del Paso before achieving victory in the Kentucky Derby in 1886, marking the first win for a California-bred horse.
The statue went missing on September 31, from its location along Del Paso Boulevard, adjacent to the Sacramento Youth Center. While the police announced the arrests on Wednesday, they noted that the statue has not yet been recovered. Sacramento City Councilmember Roger Dickinson emphasized the commitment to preserving North Sacramento’s cultural landmarks and ensuring accountability for those who threaten them.
