Diwali and Annakut celebration brings Hindu traditions, food and culture to Sacramento

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Families are invited to partake in the Diwali and Hindu New Year festivities with an afternoon dedicated to cultural traditions, vibrant decorations, and delicious food in the Sacramento area. The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Mather will be the backdrop for the Diwali and Annakut Celebration 2026 on Sunday, November 1, from noon until 5 p.m.

This year’s event will showcase Annakut, a traditional presentation of a vast variety of vegetarian dishes offered to God. Attendees can also enjoy rangoli, a decorative artwork made with colorful materials, in addition to food stalls, prasad, and various exhibits that highlight Hindu culture. An Aarti, a significant Hindu ceremony that involves offering light, is scheduled every hour starting at noon. Organizers encourage guests to secure a time slot in advance, as tickets are required for everyone, including children, although admission remains free.
