Until October 31, Front Street Animal Shelter is eliminating all fees for dog adoptions as they face a crowded shelter and an influx of stray dogs. A variety of dogs, with differing ages, sizes, and temperaments, are available, including those already spayed or neutered that can go home the same day.
Adoption counselors are ready to assist prospective adopters in finding a suitable dog for their family and lifestyle. Each adopted dog will receive spay or neuter surgery, vaccinations, and a microchip. April Stevenson, the shelter manager, highlighted that adopting even one dog creates space for another in need of care, and encouraged those unable to adopt to consider helping in other ways, such as participating in outings for shelter dogs or sharing information with others.
Additionally, the shelter, in partnership with the Latino Center of Art & Culture, is creating a community ofrenda to honor pets who have passed. This display will remain open until November 2. Community members wishing to contribute can bring a photo of a pet. The shelter also offers programs like Doggie Day Out, Pups & PJs, and Jog-a-Dog, which allow volunteers to spend time with dogs and assist staff in learning more about each dog’s behavior, enhancing their chances for adoption.
