The Sacramento City Unified School District initially faced a challenge when it was set to return approximately $1.8 million to the state, related to unspent funds from a total allocation of around $6.3 million designated for enhancing arts and music programs. However, a thorough review conducted recently uncovered a clerical mistake, confirming that the district had utilized its entire funding appropriately.
Chief Business Officer Gerardo Castillo, who assumed his role earlier this summer, expressed confidence that such administrative oversights would decrease in the future. The funding, which resulted from Proposition 28 approved by voters in 2022, was crucial in expanding visual and performing arts within the district, including the creation of 32 new full-time arts positions across the schools.
