Unsolved: Sacramento sheriff posts new video 20 years after deputy's killing

On the 20th anniversary of Deputy Jeffrey Mitchell’s death, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department is seeking public assistance in solving the case. Deputy Mitchell was shot and killed on a rural Sacramento County road on October 27, 2006. At that time, a white van, potentially linked to the investigation, was discovered in a river about 20 miles away, but the occupants were determined not to be involved in the crime.

In a recent social media post, the department emphasized, “20 years since we lost one of our own. Sacramento County Sheriff’s Deputy Jeff Mitchell. His sacrifice has never been forgotten. But questions still remain.” The post urges anyone with information regarding the case to contact the department at 916-874-8477, underscoring that “no piece of information is too small” and appealing for courage to come forward.
