Sacramento’s Leaf Collection Initiative Begins: Key Details for Residents

Leaf season is back: What Sacramento residents need to know about Claw collection

As autumn sets in, Sacramento, known as the “City of Trees,” is preparing for an influx of leaves in its streets. To address this seasonal issue, the Recycling and Solid Waste Division will deploy its “Claw” teams, equipped with specialized tractors and rear-loading trucks, to gather leaf piles from City streets.

Beginning November 2, residents can place yard waste that exceeds the capacity of their curbside bins into manageable piles on the street for collection. The Claw crews will systematically traverse over 100 neighborhoods, collecting these leaf piles and transporting them to a local facility for composting. Jesa David, a spokesperson for the Division, noted that they plan to complete a minimum of seven full rounds during the leaf season.

It’s advised for residents to use their curbside containers first, as weekly waste collection will continue alongside the leaf collection service. Factors such as inclement weather could delay service, and updates on collection dates can be found on the Collection Calendar, which is subject to daily changes. Residents should adhere to guidelines for pile size and placement to ensure efficient service.
